Drunk Man Arrested After Accidentally Shooting Himself, Damaging Sheriff’s Vehicle In Stevenson Ranch

A man was arrested early Saturday morning in Stevenson Ranch after accidentally shooting himself in the leg, and then attempting to break his way out of a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputy patrol vehicle.

Around 4 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, deputies responded to the 24900 block of Constitution Avenue in Stevenson Ranch regarding a male adult with a possible gunshot wound, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies identified a male with a gunshot wound to his leg,” Arriaga said. “The male appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.  During investigation, deputies learned the incident was the result of an accidental discharge.”

A firearm was recovered from the incident and the suspect was arrested for discharging a firearm in public.

Torres Omar, 20, of Van Nuys was additionally charged with felony vandalism after he kicked out the window to a patrol vehicle while detained in the back seat.

He is currently detained on $35,000 bail.

No additional suspects remain outstanding, the investigation is still ongoing, according to Arriaga.
