Dog Fight Sends Castaic Assault Suspect To Jail

A Castaic man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly assaulted his neighbor with a stick after their dogs were involved in a fight.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the 29800 block of Cambridge Avenue in Castaic regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“During (their) investigation, deputies learned the victim was standing outside of his residence when his dog ran up to the suspect’s dog,” Arriaga said.

The suspect allegedly assaulted the victim’s dog with a billy club, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“The victim attempted to stop the suspect from physically assaulting the victim’s dog when a physical altercation ensued between the victim and suspect,” Arriaga said.

The victim was struck by the suspect with the stick multiple times.

The suspect was detained without further incident by the help of a nearby neighbor.

The victim was not injured, according to Arriaga.

Horacio Galvan, 64, from Castaic, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, a felony and possession of a billy club, Arriaga added.

Galvan was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $30,000, according to arrest records.
