A suspect remains outstanding Friday after he allegedly struck a deputy with his car during a Santa Clarita traffic stop Thursday evening.
Around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Costco parking lot near Via Princessa and Sierra Highway in Canyon Country, said Lt. Mike Marion, with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“When the deputy asked for an I.D., the suspect accelerated and sped away,” Marion said. “Part of the vehicle struck the deputy and knocked him to the ground.”
A brief pursuit was initiated, but the deputies lost sight of the vehicle, according to Marion.
Around 9:30 p.m., the vehicle was found unoccupied on the opposite side of Costco from where the traffic stop occurred, according to officials.
A containment was established, however, the suspect was not located.
As of Friday morning, the suspect remains outstanding, according to Marion.
The deputy that was struck did not sustain any major injuries, according to officials.
