Santa Clarita Man Arrested On 10 Charges After Reported Vandalism Call

A Newhall man was arrested Friday evening on 10 charges, including identity theft, after he allegedly vandalised a property.

Around 6 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to the 24200 block of Bamboo Drive for a reported vandalism which occurred near Calgrove Boulevard and the 5 Freeway in Newhall, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“When the call was first received reporting the vandalism, a vehicle description was given,” Arriaga said.

Deputies searched the area and were able to locate a vehicle matching the suspect description, according to Arriaga.

A traffic stop was initiated on Newhall Avenue near Meadowridge Drive, and on initial contact with the driver, deputies observed drug paraphernalia inside his car.

“A search of the car resulted in the recovery of several driver’s licenses, social security cards, access cards, checks and mail not identified to the suspect, as well as a variety of construction tools, narcotics and additional contraband,” Arriaga said.

Deputies also learned the suspect was a previously convicted felon.

Gustavo Bonilla, 28, from Newhall, was booked on 10 different charges, including identity theft, possession of stolen property, mail theft, all felonies with additional narcotic charges, Arriaga added.

Bonilla was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $0, according to arrest records.
