The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) reported 2,781 additional coronavirus cases across L.A. County on Sunday, including 99 confirmed cases in Santa Clarita.
Within the past seven days, Public Health has reported 177 deaths linked to confirmed COVID-19 cases across L.A. County, including one death reported at Henry Mayo Hospital in Santa Clarita.
Since the onset of the pandemic, L.A. County has reported 1,383,186 positive cases of the coronavirus and 25,071 deaths with 1,746 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Sunday.
Since August 7, data collected by Public Health shows that unvaccinated adults between the ages of 18 to 49 were 25 times more likely to be hospitalized than vaccinated adults, according to Public Health.
“While the vaccines are not perfect, and many of us may know someone who is fully vaccinated and ended up getting COVID, all three vaccines continue to do what we most need them to do: they protect from the worst outcomes of COVID-19,” read a statement from Barbara Ferrer, director of Public Health.
Meanwhile, unvaccinated adults ages 50 and over were about 12 times more likely to be hospitalized than vaccinated adults, with a rate of 59 hospitalizations for every 100,000 people, according to Public Health.

“Because the vaccines by themselves are not completely preventing transmission of the virus, masking and distancing provide layers of additional protection that is needed,” Ferrer said. “To avoid requiring even more safety measures to blunt the spread of the virus, many more people must get vaccinated. This is how we can keep our schools, workplaces, and retail establishments open at full capacity.”
