Increased Law Enforcement Presence At La Mesa Junior High School After Discredited Online Threat

Parents at La Mesa Junior High School reported seeing an increased precautionary law enforcement presence at the school on Monday after an alleged online threat.

School officials announced Sunday night that a discredited social media threat aimed at La Mesa Junior High School had been discovered online, according to an email sent to parents.

“With student and staff safety as our number one priority, school and district administrators have been working throughout the weekend with law enforcement to investigate, and law enforcement has deemed the threat as not credible,” wrote Michele Krantz, Principal of La Mesa.

The school opened as usual on Monday, but out of an abundance of caution additional deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were posted on campus and in the community, to act as a deterrent.

Several individuals brought the alleged threat to the attention of school officials through the Student Care Line, meant to allow students, parents and members of the community to report concerning behaviors to staff.

“Thank you to those who saw or heard something, and stepped up to say something. The Student Care Line is there to serve the wellness of our students, no matter what the need may be,” Krantz wrote.

Last week, the Student Care Line was credited with assisting in an investigation that led to the arrest of four Hart High School students after one brought a firearm onto campus.
