Henry Mayo Reports Three COVID-Related Deaths In One Week, 30 Patients Hospitalized

Three COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in the course of a week at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita, with 30 patients still hospitalized.

This week’s deaths bring the death toll up to 163 for the hospital since March of 2020, according to spokesperson Patrick Moody. Thirty COVID-19 patients still remain in treatment at Henry Mayo.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced a 30 percent decline in case rates across county children over the past two weeks. The decline comes following the recent spike in case rates among children due to in-person schooling.

“Vaccination remains one of the quickest and most powerful ways to decrease community transmission and prevent serious illness, which helps keep students, teachers and staff in school, and the COVID-19 vaccines have proven to be safe and effective. Public Health will continue to work closely with school districts as they take critical actions to protect students and staff from a dangerous and highly infectious virus,” said Director of Public Health Dr. Barbara Ferrer.

The county has investigated 14 outbreaks in schools since August, most being in elementary schools. Public health officials have stated that the number of these confirmed outbreaks is low and a positive sign for the effectiveness of anti-transmission protocols.

As of Thursday, there have been 49 New Deaths and 2,218 New Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County. There are currently 1,385 people with COVID-19 hospitalized and 30 percent of these people are in the ICU. This is a decrease of 288 daily hospitalizations in one week in the county.
