Heat Alert Issued Amid Triple Digits In Santa Clarita Weather Forecast

A heat alert has been issued and is set to begin Wednesday, amid triple-digits in the Santa Clarita weather forecast.

The Santa Clarita heat alert, slated to last through Friday, has been issued by the Los Angeles County Health Officer among forecasted temperatures in the high 90s and low 100s.

“While it is very important that everyone take special care of themselves, it is equally important that we reach out and check on others, in particular those who are especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of high temperatures, including children, the elderly and their pets,” said Dr. Muntu Davis, L.A. County Health Officer. “High temperatures are not just an inconvenience, they can be dangerous and even deadly.”

High temperatures are expected to last for the rest of this week in the Santa Clarita Valley.

On Wednesday, a high temperature of 98 degrees is expected.

Thursday should take Santa Clarita into triple digit temperatures with a forecast of 100 degrees.

Friday is projected to have a high temperature of 99 degrees.

Older adults, children, athletes and people who work outdoors are some of those more sensitive to high temperatures, according to officials.

When temperatures are high enough to trigger a heat alert, those who are vulnerable are more likely to suffer from heat-related illnesses, health officials said.

L.A. County Public Health recommends avoiding heat-related sickness by doing the following:

  • Drinking water
  • Trying to avoid going outside during the hottest hours of the day
  • Putting on sunscreen, wearing lightweight and light-colored clothes and using a hat or an umbrella when going outside in daylight
  • Not leaving children or pets in cars and alerting authorities if you see a child or pet unattended in a car
  • Seeking medical help if you are experiencing symptoms of a heat-related illness
  • Checking on people who are at a higher risk for heat-related illness
  • Avoiding heavy exercise outdoors in a mask not made for workouts
  • Checking your power company’s website or calling them to see if there is a scheduled power outage in your area.

“It is critically important to never leave children, elderly people, or pets unattended in homes with no air conditioning and particularly in vehicles, even if the windows are ‘cracked’ or open, as temperatures inside can quickly rise to life-threatening levels,” Davis said. “If you have an elderly or infirm neighbor who is without air conditioning, check on them throughout the day.”

Cooling centers are available throughout L.A. County during times of high heat.

Masks are required in cooling centers.

With the hot conditions, officials are warning Santa Clarita residents to be prepared if a brush fire were to ignite by having a plan in place in the event evacuations are put into place.
