Garcia Supports Passage Of Veterans In Parks Act Through House Of Representatives

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, expressed support for the passage of the Veterans in Parks (VIP) Act, which would maintain veterans’ free access to national parks, through the House of Representatives.

As a cosponsor of the VIP Act and a veteran himself, Garcia applauded the legislation’s approval in the House of Representatives Friday.

“I am pleased that the House passed the VIP Act, which will rightfully give free National Park and public land access to our servicemembers, veterans, and Gold Star Families,” Garcia said. “It is because of their service and sacrifice that we get to enjoy the freedoms we share as Americans.”

In 2020, the America the Beautiful annual pass became free for veterans and Gold Star Families, but the passes could be revoked in the future, according to Garcia’s office.

The VIP Act creates lifetime passes mandated by law, representatives for Garcia said.

In addition, the act allows current members of the military to access annual passes which can be turned into lifetime passes after they complete their years of service, representatives said.

“In Congress, I will continue to work to ensure our nation’s veterans and servicemembers receive the benefits and support they deserve,” Garcia said.
