Former Santa Clarita Emergency Coordinator, Philanthropist Adele Macpherson Passes Away

Santa Clarita philanthropist Adele Macpherson recently passed away after decades of serving the community.

Macpherson grew up in Sale, England, living in Israel, Canada, and Washington state with her husband Iain before finally settling in the Santa Clarita Valley in 1986.

Macpherson has volunteered with several local organizations, eventually being named manager of the local branch of the American Red Cross. In 1990, she was named Community Services Superintendent and the Emergency Coordinator for the City of Santa Clarita.

During the 1994 Northridge earthquake, in which the 5 and 14 Freeway interchange in the Newhall Pass collapsed and cut off access to the San Fernando Valley for several weeks, Macpherson became known to other members of the community for her assistance even while her own home was red-tagged due to damage from the quake.

Adele was a treasure in our valley. We worked closely on so many events impacting Santa Clarita. The 1994 Northridge earthquake, working together for decades on the Red Cross board, serving together on the Man & Women of the year committee and most recently developing the Santa Clarita coalition,” said KHTS Co-Owner Carl Goldman. “We have lost the angel of Santa Clarita.

By the year 2000,  Macpherson had become involved with the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, the Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley, the SCV Committee on Aging, the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the SCV Resource Center, the School-to-Business Alliance, the SCV Boys and Girls Club, the United Way and the Daughters of the British Empire.

In 2002,  Macpherson was honored as the Santa Clarita Valley’s Woman of the Year, continuing her work as active board member for the Santa Clarita Child and Family Center.

In July of 2021, the Santa Clarita City Council presented  Macpherson with an award to honor her work in the community over the past several decades.

Macpherson will be missed by her family, friends, and the community she loved.
