Santa Clarita Congressman Cosponsors Veterans In Parks Act

Congressman Mike Garcia (R-Santa Clarita) cosponsored the bipartisan Veterans in Parks Act (VIP Act) on Friday to provide current military service members, veterans and Gold Star Families with free access to all National Parks.

The VIP Act was cosponsored by Garcia Friday to give back to “the brave men and women who fought for the freedoms we hold dear,” as well as their families, according to Garcia.

“As we approach the 245th birthday of our nation and celebrate what it means to be an American, we must also take the time to thank the brave men and women who fought for the freedoms we hold dear,” Garcia said in a statement on Friday. “I am proud to cosponsor the VIP Act, which rightfully gives free access to National Parks for our military service members, veterans and Gold Star Families.”

The legislation follows Garcia and his team’s efforts to honor the sacrifices of those who served to protect and defend our country by assembling and delivering care packages for veterans as part of a June Saturday of Service event.

“I’m proud of Team Garcia’s continued focus on putting local veterans first,” Garcia said during the event in June. “I hope our work here today will make life a little easier for the heroes of the 25th district.”

As a former naval fighter pilot who flew over 30 combat missions in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Garcia remains a strong advocate for veterans, service members and their families, according to a statement from Garcia’s office.

“In Congress, I will continue to fight to ensure our service members and veterans receive the services and support they earned,” Garcia said.
