One Killed After Santa Clarita Crash, Sierra Highway Traffic Impacted

One person was killed Monday after their dump truck crashed into a ditch in a Santa Clarita crash.

Around 8:10 a.m. Monday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on Sierra Highway near Davenport Road in Canyon Country, said Leslie Lua, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“We responded to a report of a (dump truck) into a ditch,” Lua said.

When units arrived, they reported a dump truck went to a ditch with one person trapped.

At around 8:34 a.m., one person was pronounced dead on arrival, said Officer Peter Nicholson, with the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center.

Southbound Sierra Highway is expected to be closed for an unknown amount of time while CHP officers investigate the crash.

The identity of the driver is unknown as of Monday morning.
