Man Killed In Santa Clarita Crash Identified

The man who was killed Monday after their dump truck went down into a ditch in a Santa Clarita crash has been identified.

Aristeo Limon Jr., 52, from Azusa, was killed in the crash, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

Around 8:10 a.m. Monday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on Sierra Highway near Davenport Road in Canyon Country, said Leslie Lua, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department, at the time of the crash.

“We responded to a report of a (dump truck) into a ditch,” Lua said.

Limon was driving a 2012 Peterbilt dump truck, westbound on Davenport Road approaching the stop sign-controlled T-intersection at Sierra Highway, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office.

“Limon failed to brake for the stop sign and continued through the intersection,” Greengard said. “Limon collided with the dirt embankment.”

The collision caused the vehicle to overturn and come to rest down the dirt embankment.

As of Tuesday morning, it is unclear if the brakes on the truck had gone out, or if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, Greengard said.

Around 8:34 a.m., Limon was pronounced dead on arrival, said Officer Peter Nicholson, with the CHP Traffic Management Center at the time of the crash.
