On Tuesday, a young Castaic resident passed away in his home, prompting the launch of a GoFundMe to help support his family in their time of need.

Nathan Esparza, a 16-year-old Castaic High School student and football player, tragically and unexpectedly passed away in his home on the evening of Tuesday, July 13. According to the GoFundMe started in his honor.

“Nathan was such a sweet, caring, goofy young soul that left us too soon. This unexpected and sudden loss is hard on all of us,” said Vanessa De La Rosa, a family friend who has started a GoFundMe to support the family.

Grief counselors will be available for anyone in need of help at Castaic High School.

“It is always tragic to lose a student and our hearts and condolences go out to his family and friends. Counselors are available at the school should anyone need to work through their grief,” said Dave Caldwell, spokesperson for the William S. Hart Union High School District.

An unexpected loss for many, Nathan was a son, brother, athlete, student, grandson, nephew, and friend.
