Girlfriend Arrested After Harboring Wanted Felony Suspect In Santa Clarita

A wanted man was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges after he crashed his motorcycle and fled from deputies in Santa Clarita, resulting in his girlfriend’s arrest for harboring him from law enforcement.

Around 10 a.m. Wednesday, deputies with the Crime Impact Team conducted a surveillance operation in an attempt to locate a suspect who had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest near American Beauty Drive in Canyon Country, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“During the operation, the suspect was observed on his motorcycle on American Beauty Drive (near) Sierra Highway in Canyon Country,” Arriaga said.

As deputies made contact with the suspect, he attempted to flee on his motorcycle which resulted in him crashing into a parked vehicle, according to Arriaga.

The suspect then proceeded to flee on foot from deputies.

“During a brief foot pursuit, deputies lost sight of the suspect and a containment was set up,” Arriaga said.

During a search for the suspect, deputies located him and apprehended him without incident on Sundowner Way. A search of his property resulted in the recovery of a taser, drug paraphernalia, a California driver’s license not named to the suspect, and a canister of pepper spray, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“While speaking with the suspect, deputies learned he was under the influence of narcotics,” Arriaga added.

29-year-old Justin Furlong, a Saugus resident, was arrested for multiple charges, including felon in possession of pepper spray/tear gas and felon in possession of a stun gun, all felonies. He was also arrested for driving under the influence of narcotics, hit and run, misappropriation of lost property, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license, all misdemeanors, Arriaga added.

Through deputies’ continued investigation they contacted the suspect’s girlfriend, 28-year-old Canyon Country resident Katie Gray, who was present at the time of the incident, and learned she had been willfully harboring the suspect at her residence, according to Arriaga.

She was arrested for harboring a known fugitive, and later released on $0 bail.

Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Station jail.
