Evacuations Issued For TumbleWeed Fire In Gorman North Of Santa Clarita

Evacuations were issued for the Tumbleweed Fire in Gorman on Sunday as the blaze rapidly grew due to westward winds, officials said.

Around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, emergency responders received reports of a brush fire near the southbound 5 Freeway and Gorman Road in Gorman just north of Santa Clarita, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Captain Ron Haralson.

The fire, dubbed the Tumbleweed Incident, was first reported as a half acre, driven by west winds.

“(As of 2:45 p.m.) the Tumbleweed Incident reached 200 acres,” Haralson said.

As of 2:40 p.m. Sunday, gusty winds have caused the fire to spread to 200 acres with a potential of 500 to 1000 acres within the hour, according to Fire officials.

Fixed-wing aircrafts and additional ground support has been called in to combat the blaze.

Evacuations were issued for residents south of the Gorman Off-Highway Motor Vehicle area as of 2 p.m. Sunday, according to Fire officials.

No injuries have been reported.
