City Council To Honor Santa Clarita Philanthropist Adele Macpherson

The Santa Clarita City Council is set to present an award to local philanthropist Adele Macpherson for her work in the community over the past several decades.

Macpherson grew up in Sale, England, living in Israel, Canada, and Washington state with her husband Iain before finally settling in the Santa Clarita Valley in 1986.

Macpherson has volunteered with several local organizations, eventually being named manager of the local branch of the American Red Cross. In 1990, she was named Community Services Superintendent and the Emergency Coordinator for the City of Santa Clarita.

During the 1994 Northridge earthquake, in which the 5 and 14 freeway interchange in the Newhall Pass collapsed and cut off access to the San Fernando Valley for several weeks, Macpherson became known to other members of the community for her assistance even while her own home was red-tagged due to damage from the quake.

“We’ve known and worked with Adele Macpherson since the early 90s,  Adele was instrumental during the earthquake, she is one of those heroes behind the scenes that makes our valley so incredible,” said KHTS Co-Owner Carl Goldman. “I’ve worked with Adele navigating through the red cross, through countless fires, floods, tunnel explosions, all kinds of emergencies… Adele, you are one of those unsung heroes who don’t get enough credit for all the work that you deservedly have done.”

By the year 2000, Adele had become involved with the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, the Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley, the SCV Committee on Aging, the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the SCV Resource Center, the School-to-Business Alliance, the SCV Boys and Girls Club, the United Way and the Daughters of the British Empire.

In 2002, Adele was honored as the Santa Clarita Valley’s Woman of the Year, continuing her work as active board member for the Santa Clarita Child and Family Center.
