Santa Clarita’s Canyon Theatre Guild announced the five winners of the 2021 Senior Scholarships on Thursday.
The theatre’s five 2021 Senior Scholarships, each for $750, went towards local graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education, according to officials.
“Winner selection was tough, as we were impressed with all of the applicants, and are beyond pleased to know these young people are out there and ready to take on the challenges of the future,” said Jennifer Teague, director of Youth Programs and Administration.
The winners of this year’s scholarships were Bella Ban Why with the Mercy Holiday Scholarship, Natasha Surgick with the Mike Levine Scholarship, Shaya Godycki with the Darel Roberts Scholarship, Cole Carter with the Patti and Greg Finley scholarship and Quentin Thompson with the James Robinson Scholarship.
The Canyon Theatre Guild has awarded scholarships to high school graduates for the past 21 years. Winners were chosen based on their personal essays and letters of recommendation, according to officials.
With the recent pandemic, the theatre felt it was especially important to aid high schoolers facing new challenges, officials said.
“Due to the amazing generosity of a very special Canyon Theatre Guild Angel, we
were able to award $3,750 worth of scholarships this year,” said TimBen Boydston, executive and artistic director of the Canyon Theatre Guild. “It is very gratifying, especially during this unique time, to be able to help five incredible seniors as they take the next step in pursuing their dreams.”
