The Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) Chamber of Commerce announced Wednesday that March’s First Responder Gratitude Campaign has officially raised over $40,000 to be spent on gift cards from local businesses to award to Santa Clarita first responders.
The SCV Chamber Gratitude Campaign was an overwhelming success, and rallied the community to collectively honor and thank the first responders of the area and their tireless work to protect and serve Santa Clarita.
“This campaign is another example of our local SCV Chamber working collaboratively and going above and beyond during the pandemic to support our businesses, first responders and community. I am beyond proud of our full community, how they have come together, and made each of us SCV proud, and proving that we are better together,” said Bill Miranda, mayor of the city of Santa Clarita.
With the leading sponsor being Sand Canyon Country Club, who agreed to match up to $15,000, the campaign reached and exceeded its original goal of $30,000 with which to thank the first responders of Santa Clarita.
Another significant sponsor, Six Flags Magic Mountain, donated 2,400 theme park tickets to the campaign, separately from the total $40,000 raised.
“It is our honor and privilege to provide Six Flags Magic Mountain tickets to our local first responders. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for all they do for our community and for our businesses each and every day,” stated Don McCoy, Park President of Six Flags Magic Mountain. “Inviting them to the park for a day of fun and excitement is a small token of our deepest appreciation for all their great efforts to keep us safe.”
The idea for this campaign was presented by local resident Janine Cooper Ayres who was inspired by the hard work, selflessness, and dedication of local first responders. The Gratitude Campaign was born from her original idea, evolving to include and support local businesses.
The design of the gift cards is to express gratitude for the heroism of the first responders while also supporting the community’s economy by encouraging reinforcement of small businesses.
The delivery of the ‘thank you’ gift cards will occur over the next two weeks, going directly to the first responders. The first delivery was made personally by Mayor Bill Miranda and the SCV Chamber to the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital team on Tuesday April 27.
