Over the weekend of Friday April 23 to Sunday April 25, local Santa Clarita law enforcement officers made an increase of 31 percent as compared to last weekend, matching the number from two weekends ago.
21 total arrests were made in Santa Clarita this past weekend, keeping up with the trend since February of lower arrest numbers. Arrests in 2021 have remained low as compared to years previous.
Of the 21 total arrests, 15 of them were arrests made on account of drugs and/or alcohol. This makes up an alarming 71 percent of all arrests, including the 10 arrests made for driving under the influence (DUI’s).
A surprisingly low number of the arrests made were charged as felonies. Only four of the 21 arrests were categorized as felonies, including the detainment of two murder suspects, which resulted in the arrest of one suspect under the initial charge of assualt with a deadly weapon with a firearm.

13 of the 21 individuals arrested this weekend were out-of-towners, people who do not reside within the Santa Clarita Valley. These individuals accounted for almost 62 percent of all arrests, accounting for three of the four felonies as well. One individual, a transient based in Newhall, was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Some of the arrests that were booked this weekend were charges for unlawful mail theft, DUI causing injury, battery against former spouse, illegal possession of ammunition, violating parole, assault with a deadly weapon, and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
A story brewing on the horizon is that of an individual who was allegedly taking pictures of minors at a local park on Saturday, raising suspicion and bringing much concern to the community. Detectives have reached out to the community for aid in identifying the man.
