Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club Board Names New Board President

Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita announced that Gloria Mercado-Fortine, President and CEO of Global Education Solutions, is set to be the non-profit’s new board chair.

In a Wednesday board meeting for the Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club, the board voted to name long-time board member and supporter, Gloria Mercado-Fortine as board president. Mercado-Fortine is set to take on the leadership role for the remainder of 2021.

“As a professional educator I couldn’t be more proud to serve Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Clubs for the past 18 years. I’ve witnessed first-hand the positive influence the Club’s programs have on a child’s life,” said Mercado-Fortine in a statement Wednesday. “There is no organization more dedicated to every aspect of a child’s development, from academic success and health and wellness programs to workforce readiness and leadership skills development”

Mercado-Fortine has many years of experience serving on fundraising, safety, and strategic plan committees for the Club as a volunteer board member, according to officials with the Boys & Girls Club.

“I stand committed to ensuring we reach more young people with exceptional programming to help them reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens,” Mercado-Fortine concluded.

Matt Carpenter, current Vice President of the Boys & Club and member of the fundraising committee, is set to be the board president-elect following Mercado-Fortine.

The next few years are “critical” for the organization’s Great Futures 2025 plan, in which the Boys & Girls Club plans to inspire and empower even more Club youth to achieve success, and champion opportunities for all young people in Santa Clarita and the surrounding communities.

The Boys & Girls Club board offers strategic leadership for the organization, guiding the work of two service locations and impacting 5,000 children and teens annually. As “the leading advocate for youth” in Santa Clarita, the Boys & Girls Club reportedly provides “life-changing and transformational” programs, along with opportunities for all children and teens.

The Club is currently shifting back to its normal after-school format after a year of virtual services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Support for local youth programming can be provided by joining the Club’s virtual Annual Benefit Auction set to commence on Saturday, June 5.
