A Santa Clarita brush fire broke out at Towsley Canyon Park in Newhall on Sunday, officials said.
UPDATE (4:50): Additional emergency responders were requested to manage the heavy brush in the hills. Helicopters continue managing the fire from above, officials said. Forward progress on the fire has been stopped at one acre in size as of 4:49 p.m. Sunday, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s officials.

At around 3:35 p.m. Sunday, first responders received reports of a brush fire near the intersection of Calgrove Boulevard and the Old Road in Newhall just east of the 5 Freeway, according to Melanie Flores, a dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The blaze was first reported as a quarter acre, engulfing heavy brush at the top of the Ridge, according to the California Highway Patrol information logs.
“The fire has spread to half an acre,” Flores said.

Santa Clarita Sheriff’s officials are urging the community to avoid the area to allow emergency responders to pass through.
No structures are being threatened, officials said.
No injuries have been reported.
