Drug, Alcohol-Related Arrests Continue Dominating Santa Clarita Weekend Crimes

Drug and alcohol-related arrests continue to make up the bulk of all weekend arrests in Santa Clarita

Over the weekend of Friday April 30 to Sunday May 2, Santa Clarita law enforcement booked 21 total arrests, matching the number of arrests from the previous weekend.

This decrease in arrests follows the recent trend, with continued low numbers of weekend arrests. Since approximately February, arrests have been steadily decreasing and have seemingly begun to rest around 20 per weekend.

Though the overall number of arrests decreased this weekend, the total number of arrests made for drug and alcohol related offenses was still a staggering 14, making up a distressing 66 percent of all arrests.

Those 14 arrests include 11 arrests for driving under the influence (DUI), one for drunkenness, one for selling a controlled substance and one for possession of a controlled substance.

Of the 21 total arrests, 15 of the arrests made were of individuals who reside outside Santa Clarita, and one transient individual in Castaic.

This weekend’s log included six felonies, including assault with a deadly weapon, passing out counterfeit notes, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, using another person’s identification, grand theft auto, and selling a controlled substance.
