Over 1 Million Residents Fully Vaccinated In L.A. County

Officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) announced Friday that over 1 million people within the county had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

As of Friday, Mar. 19, 3,234,989 doses of vaccine have been administered across the county. Of those vaccinated, 1,057,794 people have received second doses.

Next week, the county is expecting to receive 280,000 vaccine doses, approximately the same amount as the previous week. This includes 6,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which only requires one dose to be fully effective, according to Dr. Paul Simon, Health Officer for the LADPH.

“We expect to receive much larger quantities of the Johnson Johnson vaccine beginning this month,” said Simon

According to Simon, approximately 45% of next week’s vaccine supply has been earmarked for first doses, with 55% for second doses.

About 26% of the vaccine doses will are expected to go to healthcare providers and Community clinics, 23% to the large community vaccination sites operated by the county, such as the one at Six FLags Magic Mountain, and 18% to the city of Los Angeles.

“We will be providing first doses on Monday available to persons in all eligible sectors. However on Tuesday through Sunday, we will only be providing second doses,” Simon said.

An additional 993 COVID-19 cases and 88 deaths were reported across L.A. County Thursday.

This brings the county’s cumulative total to 1,212,586 positive cases of COVID-19 and 22,664 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, according to the LADPH officials.

Testing results are available for over 5,984,000 people, with a cumulative 19 percent of people testing positive.

As of Thursday, there were 861 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in L.A. County, 26 percent of which were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The Southern California Region has 27.6 percent staffed adult ICU capacity remaining as of the state’s last update on Friday, March 12, according to state health officials.

Residents are encouraged to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19, to not gather in crowds, stay home when sick, wear a face covering and maintain physical distance from others when outside of the home.

A travel advisory remains in effect for L.A. County. Anyone who is arriving in Los Angeles County must self-quarantine for 10 days. Residents are asked to remain at home or lodging for 10 days and avoid contact with others.
