A man accused of murder after allegedly fatally stabbing his co-worker in Canyon Country back in 2018, returned to court Monday for a pretrial hearing.
David Alonso Figueroa who allegedly stabbed his coworker to death back in 2018 returned to court Monday for a pretrial hearing, according to officials.
Figueroa, 35, of Pacoima, allegedly stabbed and killed Brent Hariston, 30, on Dewdrop Avenue in Canyon Country in 2018, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
On Monday July 30, 2018, around 5:30 a.m., Figueroa allegedly came to the house to pick up Hariston for work, according to Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.
The two reportedly met in rehab, according to officials.
At some point, an argument broke out between them, Corina said during a press conference from the scene at the time of the crime.
It is unclear why the argument started, but it ended with Figueroa stabbing Hariston multiple times in the upper chest, Corina said.
The victim’s mother came outside to see what the commotion was, and called 9-1-1 when she saw her son had been stabbed.
When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect had fled into the neighborhood on foot, according to officials.
A containment was established, and the suspect was eventually found hiding in a backyard, according to law enforcement officials.
Figueroa was taken into custody and charged with murder, with a bail set at $2 million.
He pleaded not guilty on July 12, 2019, according to officials.
He is scheduled to return to the San Fernando Courthouse on May 18 for a pretrial conference.
