Former Saugus High School Substitute Teacher Back In Court On Charges Of Lewd Acts On A Minor


A former Saugus High School substitute teacher attended a preliminary setting in court Monday after being charged with sexually assaulting a former student in May of 2020.

David Cornish, 28 was charged with five counts each of oral copulation of a person under the age of 16, lewd act upon a child, and sexual penetration of a person under the age of 18.

He was also charged with one count each of contact with a minor for a sexual offense, meeting a minor for lewd purposes, and distributing or showing child pornography to a minor.

The student was a 14-year-old student of Cornish at Saugus High school. The alleged sexual relationship would have occurred between April and May 2020.

The defendant was suspended by the Hart District immediately after district officials learned about the allegations. 

Cornish faces a possible maximum sentence of 16 years and 6 months in state prison if convicted as charged.

Cornish is set to return to court for a preliminary hearing on April 23, 2021, according to Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the District Attorney’s office.
