City Council To Address Two Residential Construction Projects In Canyon Country

On Tuesday, Santa Clarita City Council is scheduled to address two major construction projects in Canyon Country, MetroWalk and the Sierra West assisted living facility.

The Santa Clarita City Council is slated to meet Tuesday at six p.m., with a planned hearing on the potential development of two major projects, recommended for passage by the Santa Clarita Planning Commission, known as MetroWalk and Sierra West.

City documents describe the plan for MetroWalk as a “proposal for the establishment of the MetroWalk Specific Plan, consisting of a 498-unit multi-family development including 179 market-rate apartments, 119 market-rate senior apartments, 50 affordable senior apartments including one manager unit, 150 townhome units, and a community park.”

The public plan for MetroWalk states that the project site would be located generally north and west of the Metrolink tracks and east of Lost Canyon Road in Canyon Country.

“A multi-use path would link the Project Site with the future Metrolink Vista Canyon Station to the east and the Vista Canyon Specific Plan Project to the north while connecting various private amenities throughout the Project Site, including park nodes, open space, a central clubhouse, and a playground,” the plan reads.

Construction is planned for the Sierra West assisted living center on an eight-acre site owned by the city and located on the northeast corner of Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway in Canyon Country.

The plan for Sierra West is described as “the construction of an 83-unit, 61,736 square-foot independent and assisted living facility with memory care units.”

There are three reported project phases for Sierra West, with the first two phases having already begun construction.

The City Council meeting, during which the two projects are expected to be reviewed in the public hearing section, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
