Santa Clarita Soccer Center Looking Into Ways To Re-Open

Officials with the Santa Clarita Soccer Center (SCSC) announced Thursday that they are looking into how to re-open the valley’s only indoor soccer facility after previously expecting a permanent closure in September.

On Thursday, SCSC officials said they might finally re-open after the COVID-19 pandemic closed its doors back in March 2020. Prior to the closure, SCSC hosted over 120 adult and youth teams weekly, including the popular ‘Lil Kickers’ franchise for children from 18 months to 9 years of age.

“The official re-opening date, which we don’t want to announce just yet, will have to be based on the state, the county, and the city,” said Scott Schauer, managing partner of SCSC, in a phone call with KHTS Friday. “We don’t plan on opening at 10% or anything like that, so until SCSC can operate at full capacity, we will not re-open.”

As restrictions ease up, and businesses are permitted to re-open, options are being considered to re-open the facility. SCSC L.P., started the center in 1994 due to a passion for the sport and desire to provide a place for soccer enthusiasts of all ages to play it in Santa Clarita. The facility has since grown each year.

SCSC had previously expected to permanently close its doors in September, having made the announcement in a previous KHTS story here

“We closed our doors on March 15 and planned to reopen in maybe a month or two later,” Schauer said. “We even prepared to re-open in April by setting up plastic shields and sanitizing stations, which we put a lot of money into and were never utilized.”

Schauer says that he has loved seeing the center grow to meet the demands of the Santa Clarita community.

“For the past 27 years, this business has been nothing but great to me, with each year being better than the last,” Schauer said.

While delighted with the center’s growing success, Schauer believes the time has come to “pass the torch to new owners possessing the same passion.” SCSC has gained interest from other organizations interested in taking over, with some even from Seattle and Nevada, but Schauer would prefer to “find a local business to take over.”

In addition to soccer fields, SCSC offers a fitness facility, birthday parties, a snack bar, and has a license to sell beer.

The business is being offered for Sub-Lease by SCSC L.P., the current lessee, and must remain a sports facility if subleased.

Schauer is also an associate with Daum Commercial Real Estate Services and will be handling the transaction. Five years are remaining on the current lease, with two five-year options.
