Number Of Reported Weekend Arrests In Santa Clarita Valley Drops 30%

The number of arrests reported in the Santa Clarita Valley over the weekend decreased by roughly 30%, with weekend logs indicating 30 total arrests reported in comparison with last weekend’s 42 arrests.

Between Friday, March 12, and Sunday, March 14, police booking logs indicate that a reported total of 30 arrests were recorded by officials from both the California Highway Patrol’s Newhall Office and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

This total is roughly 30% fewer arrests than those of the previous weekend of March 5-7, indicating a steep decline in arrests compared to the rising arrest rate of the previous two weeks that totaled 42 and 36 respectively.

This weekend’s arrest logs indicate a significant decrease in reported arrests, with about half of which from home addresses located outside of Santa Clarita.

Out of the 30 reported arrests over the weekend, about half were related to drugs or alcohol, with nine reported incidents of driving under the influence (DUI), two for possession of a controlled substance and four for public intoxication.

The reported number of DUI arrests decreased by three over the weekend, and the number of overall drug-and-alcohol-related arrests is down from 24 to 17 in total.

A few other arrests made this past weekend reportedly include one for grand theft of money, one for resisting an officer, one for corporal injury on a spouse or partner, and one for carrying a loaded firearm in a public place.

Out of the total number of reported arrests made, the number of felony charges was only 30% of the total arrests.

16 arrests reported in police logs over the weekend featured home addresses in cities outside of Santa Clarita, but none reported outside of California.
