MIT Fitness Startup Partners With World’s Largest Gym Chain

Last year, DeltaTrainer, a Pittsburgh-based tech startup, built a direct-to-consumer training service that’s experienced explosive growth since COVID-19 took over the globe. The DeltaTrainer app leverages smartwatch motion AI to deliver an effective and personalized fitness experience to its customers. Through the program, users get to enjoy the perks of having their own personal trainer wherever they are in the world, and at a fraction of the cost.

Now, DeltaTrainer hopes to further accelerate its expansion with a strategic partnership with the world’s largest gym chain, Anytime Fitness.

How DeltaTrainer rose to the COVID-19 challenge

Launched in March of 2020, DeltaTrainer started with just a single part-time fitness trainer catering to a handful of clients. But due to the rapid expansion of its user base, it is now responsible for thousands of fitness journeys across 12 different countries.

Amazingly, DeltaTrainer grew 100% month-over-month in the last quarter of 2020. This impressive feat came as more and more people discovered the wonders of the app’s smartwatch motion AI and how it can transform the “remote fitness” experience.

The Coronavirus pandemic caused thousands of gyms and fitness centers to close their doors. As a result, people had to make do with workouts they can perform within the comfort of their homes. DeltaTrainer rose to the challenge by designing an app that delivers the benefits of training with a personal coach without having to physically be present with one.

What makes DeltaTrainer different?

1-on-1 live coaching

DeltaTrainer considers your goals and experience level and pairs you with a fitness trainer that best complements you. You get to do live 1-on-1 coaching sessions with your trainer to make sure you’re getting the most out of every workout.

If you think this means exercising with a coach virtually cheering you on, hold up because it’s more than that. Through the company’s proprietary smartwatch motion AI, your trainer will get real-time data about your performance with every rep you execute. This allows your trainer to give you live feedback on your pacing and form and keep you accountable — just like how it is with a traditional personal trainer!

Extremely personalized fitness programs

Being paired with a 1-on-1 trainer means you’ll get extremely personalized fitness programs tailored to your specific strengths, weaknesses, and goals. You also get unlimited messaging with your trainer on top of two video calls each month.

You and your trainer will work closely to make sure your routine is always in tip-top shape. The equipment you have available at home will also be considered when your trainer designs your workout plan, so you don’t have to worry about getting assigned a workout that’s impossible to do with the resources you have available.

Accessible and affordable personal training

It only costs $69 per month to get unlimited remote personal training from DeltaTrainer, which is definitely a small fraction of what it costs to hire a traditional fitness coach directly. Best of all, you can access DeltaTrainer from wherever you are in the world.

Points and leaderboards

Need a little push? Aside from having a trainer that keeps you accountable, you can also use DeltaTrainer to compete against friends and family for extra motivation. You can earn fitness points and track each other’s progress in the app’s leaderboards to make your fitness journey more exciting.

DeltaTrainer x Anytime Fitness: What the future holds

Carnegie Mellon graduate Matt Spettel and MIT alum Gabe Madonna built DeltaTrainer’s product and technology in March 2020 to make direct-to-consumer training more accessible in the face of Coronavirus-fueled lockdowns. As our definition of what makes up the ‘new normal’ continues to evolve, it’s exciting to see what DeltaTrainer’s partnership with a fitness giant like Anytime Fitness will bring not only for the companies involved, but more importantly for the thousands of people who rely on this technology to make their fitness lives better and pandemic-proof.
