Minimum Wage Increases Affecting The Santa Clarita Valley In 2021

The California state minimum wage increased by $1 in 2021, with further increases set to commence in July for unincorporated areas of the Santa Clarita Valley.

The City of Santa Clarita follows state minimum wage laws, which went up to $14 an hour for employers with 26 or more employees and $13 for smaller businesses at the start of 2021, according to state officials.

While the City of Santa Clarita increases its wages in accordance with the State of California’s schedule, unincorporated areas like Stevenson Ranch and Castaic change base wages in accordance with the County of Los Angeles, which is set to increase in the summer.

Beginning July 1, 2021 a $15 minimum wage is set to be enacted in unincorporated areas of L.A. County, impacting unincorporated areas of the Santa Clarita Valley, including Stevenson Ranch and Castaic, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business affairs.

The increases are slated to continue annually until the minimum wage reaches $15.00 for all employees across the state on Jan. 1, 2023.
