KHTS Previews New High-Tech SCV Sheriff’s Station

Construction is well underway on the new Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in Canyon Country, with officials excited to move into the “state-of-the-art” facility after occupying their old space for nearly half a century.

Despite being months away from completion, a significant amount of progress has been made on the new Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, located just south of the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Centre Pointe Parkway.

Ground was broken on the new 46,552 square-foot facility in 2018, with initial grading beginning a year later. It was designed by officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to bring the station into the 21st century, as their current facility in Valencia was built in 1972.

“It’s an overwhelming project from a technology standpoint,” said Project Manager Ross Pistone. “The electronics are all state-of-the-art.”

Starting outside of the main building, officials have already completed most of the exterior work for several amenities not available at the current station, including a detached helipad, a 180-foot communications tower, and vehicle car wash and maintenance facility.

Also located outside of the main building is a 1,000 kW emergency generator, which officials say could power the entire facility for 72 hours in the event of a major power outage

Once inside of the main building, deputies at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will be able to use the larger space to house a room that doubles as an Emergency Operation Center and a Community Room. Additionally, the station’s Detectives Bureau will be able to operate out of the new facility, as they currently work in a separate building from their peers at the current one.

The new facility will also provide more space for amenities currently at the old station, including a dispatch center, a gym, and a locker room/bunking area.

Officials have also incorporated a 4,000 square-foot building pad for the future development of an up-to two-story structure, giving Sheriff’s officials up to 8,000 square-feet of space for future use.

While City officials project that construction on the new station will be completed sometime in mid-2021, no timeline to move all operations from the old facility into the new one has been determined.
