Crowdfund Campaign Started For Former Santa Clarita Detective With Stage 4 Cancer

Detective Joshua Dubin, formerly of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and his sister has begun crowdfunding for his treatment.

In October 2020, Dubin was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which has since spread, according to crowdfund organizer and sister, Ashley Lovingfoss.

“In September 2020, Josh began having some symptoms,” Lovingfoss wrote. “Josh continued working however, filling in where he was needed. Not only working his normal detective job, but working in the court system, around inmates, and out in the field dealing with the civil unrest in Los Angeles.”

Josh was officially diagnosed on Oct. 26, 2020 and began his chemotherapy treatment in-patient the next day. Each round of aggressive chemotherapy takes place inside the hospital and lasts for five to seven days at a time.

“The difficulty is compounded by the hospital not allowing visitors due to COVID precautions,” Lovingfoss wrote. “He has to go through his chemo treatments all alone, which breaks my heart.”

Stage-4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is an extremely aggressive form of cancer that has spread from his lungs, down to his right kidney and onto his bones, Lovingfoss said.

“We are fighting the cancer with a no sugar/healthy diet,” the sister wrote. “Along with his traditional oncologist from the hospital, we have decided to use a holistic oncologist as well. Both oncologists will work together with each other to treat Josh with supplements and vitamins on his off weeks from the aggressive chemotherapy treatments.”

On February 1, Dubin posted his experience going through the treatment:

“Solitary confinement. Door closed. Hardcore chemicals flowing 24/7. Back up in the new tower, where they treat the chemotherapy patients (very blessed for that).

I am not going to lie, it’s VERY easy to become very depressed, very fast, just sitting here during chemotherapy.

Shout out to my two boys who reached out to me this morning and spent a good amount of time on the telephone with me. Talking about everything that is going on with me. Means so much to me.

So many people have been so kind texting and calling me since I was diagnosed Oct 26th, just checking in with me. Letting me share my story. A THANK YOU! ”

The fundraiser set up in Dubin’s name aims to fund eating clean and buying all the supplements to “keep him strong.”

“Besides that, many of the medications required by the doctor are not covered by medical insurance,” Lovingfoss wrote. “We are asking for people to donate to this fund to help with medical costs, food, vitamins, etc.”
