Overturned Semi Truck Blocks All Southbound Lanes Of 5 Freeway


All southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were blocked by an overturned semi truck near Cherry Canyon just north of Castaic and an airlift was requested Tuesday night.

UPDATE 9 p.m.: Five people were aboard the helicopter that transported patients from the crash, however the number of patients versus family or friends was unclear, according to Supervisor McBride with the L.A. County Fire Department.

Just after 7:30 p.m., reports were received of a traffic collision with a semi truck overturned on the southbound I-5 Freeway near Cherry Canyon, just north of Castaic, according to Fire officials.

“It is an overturned truck,” said a Supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department Command and Control at 8:10 p.m. “There is a copter on the way to the freeway, but we do not know how many patients yet.”

All southbound lanes of the 5 freeway were closed for at least three hours Tuesday night, according to Officer Kravig with the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Office..

The extent of any injuries were not made public Tuesday night.
