A known theft suspect was arrested on a slew of felony charges Monday evening after deputies recovered multiple stolen items in his vehicle after a Valencia traffic stop.
On Monday evening, deputies were patrolling Valencia when they spotted a vehicle used in a previous theft of brass backflow valves, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in an official Facebook post.
“As deputies contacted the male occupant of the vehicle, they identified him as the suspect from the previous theft,” Arriaga said.
While speaking with the driver, deputies observed various brass water valves, as well as a battery-powered saw, which officials say is typically used as a burglary tool, in plain view inside the vehicle, according to Sheriff’s officials.
Deputies conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and recovered several brass backflow water valves, a battery-powered saw, a saw blade believed to be used to cut the valves, miscellaneous keys, a checkbook and credit card not named to the suspect, and a baggie of methamphetamine, according to Arriaga.
Eric Cornell, 32, from Valencia, was arrested on felony charges of receiving stolen property, forgery, and possession of burglary tools, as well as a misdemeanor narcotics charge, Arriaga added.
Cornell was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $20,000, according to arrest records.
