Original Post: Just before 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a brush fire on the 25100 block of Rye Canyon Loop in Valencia.

“We currently have a full brush response on this,” said Jon Matheny, spokesperson for the department, at 4:55 p.m. “It’s a quarter acre, running uphill.”

Dubbed the Rye Fire due to its proximity to Rye Canyon Loop, the blaze was in light to medium fuels, creeping uphill as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station confirmed that they received reports of an explosion in the area shortly before the Rye Fire broke out. However, Matheny was unable to confirm the exact cause of the blaze.

“There had been some potential movie shoot, but we don’t know further right now,” he said.

Officials on scene had yet to give an update on the exact number of injuries the blaze caused as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.
