Towsley Fire Erupts Near Newhall During Santa Ana Wind Event


The Towsley Fire, a wind-driven blaze in Newhall, prompted a response from firefighters Tuesday afternoon.

Update: (4:40 p.m.): The Towsley Fire is now 50-60 acres in size with 10% containment in steep terrain. Crews will work through the night to continue fighting this fire, according to the City of Santa Clarita.


Update: (1:58 p.m.):
The Towsley Fire is currently at 50 acres burned with no structures threatened at this time, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.

Original story: The brush fire, dubbed the Towsley Fire was first reported to firefighters around 1:20 p.m. on the 24000 block of The Old Road in Newhall, said Leslie Lua, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“Our units responded to reports of flames and smoke showing near Towsley Canyon Park,” Lua said.

The fire is currently burning in medium to heavy fuels with winds 25 mph out of the north, according to officials.

As of 1:40 p.m., the fire has burned approximately 25 acres, according to Fire officials.
