Towsley Fire Burns Over 160 Acres, Continues Overnight

As of Wednesday morning, the Towsley Fire in Newhall had grown to over 160 acres in size, with firefighters continuing to work to contain the blaze overnight, officials said.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters had increased containment from 10 percent to 17 percent, with the last known size at about 167 acres.

Firefighters have been impeded by high winds, steep terrain, falling rocks & debris, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department Public Information Office (LACoFD PIO)

“Today’s plan is to further increase containment line. To aid ground crews we have (Los Angeles County Fire Air Operations) water-dropping helicopters, along (with) fixed-wing retardant dropping aircraft,” reads a Wednesday morning update.

The brush fire was first reported to firefighters around 1:20 p.m. on the 24000 block of The Old Road in Newhall, and quickly grew to at least 50 acres in size, powered by high Santa Ana Winds that uprooted trees and downed powerlines across the valley.

Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters worked alongside units from the Angeles National Forest Service (ANF), Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD), Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Santa Barbara City Fire, CalFire and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) Fire Division to battle the blaze.

No structures are threatened or injuries reported due to the Towsley Fire as of Wednesday morning.
