Over 700,000 COVID-19 Vaccines Administered In L.A. County So Far

Officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) announced that over 700,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered across the county as of Friday.

As of Friday, over 719,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in Los Angeles County. Over 500,000 of those were first doses, while the remainder were second doses, according to the LADPH.

Dr. Paul Simon, science officer for the LADPH, told reporters Friday that the state is expected to help standardize the vaccine distribution process across California, which would help expand the number of groups eligible for the vaccine as early as February.

An additional 7,112 COVID-19 cases were reported in Los Angeles County on Friday, along with 228 deaths, according to the LADPH.

The new cases reported today bring the county’s cumulative total to 1,104,393 positive cases of COVID-19 and 16,332 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, according to the department.

As of Friday, there were 5,855 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 26 percent of which were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“Despite these promising trends do want to emphasize that the numbers of cases hospitalizations and deaths remain far too high. So while there is reason to be hopeful, we all must remain vigilant and continue to be disciplined,” said Dr. Muntu Davis, County Health Officer with the LADPH. “Wearing masks and physically distancing when out, practicing physical distancing when outside of our home and avoiding gatherings and washing your hands frequently.”

Testing results are available for over 5,463,000 people, with 19 percent of people testing positive.

According to California health officials, the Southern California Region has 0.0% staffed adult ICU capacity remaining as of Friday.
