One Dead, One Airlifted After Being Trapped In Vehicle For Two Days Following Castaic Crash

One person was found dead and another was airlifted to a nearby hospital Saturday afternoon after reportedly being trapped in their vehicle since Thursday following a Castaic crash.

Just before 1 p.m. Saturday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a traffic collision near Oak Valley Road and The Old Road in Castaic, according to an official with the department’s Command and Control center.

When officials arrived on scene, they found an overturned blue Chevrolet truck, according to traffic logs from the California Highway Patrol.

Officials on scene later confirmed that the truck was found by an individual riding a dirt bike nearby, who heard cries of distress emanating from the vehicle.

“The reporting party advised he had located an overturned vehicle in the hills, west of The Old Road, on Oak Valley Road (approximately 1 mile west on a dirt road),” wrote Officer Josh Greengard, spokesman for the CHP Newhall Office.

Initial reports also indicate that the original crash may have actually taken place on Thursday, Jan. 21, with the two occupants being trapped in the truck since then.

One person was found dead on arrival, while another was airlifted to a nearby hospital with two fractured legs as a result of the incident, according to Greengard.

The exact circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately known as of Saturday afternoon.
