Henry Mayo Reports Over A Dozen COVID-19 Deaths In Past Week

Officials with Henry Newhall Newhall Hospital have reported over a dozen deaths from COVID-19 at the hospital over the past week alone as Los Angeles County surpasses 15,000 total COVID-19 deaths.

On Saturday, Henry Mayo spokesman Patrick Moody confirmed that four additional patients had died from COVID-19, marking 14 such deaths since the previous Saturday, Jan. 16.

Saturday’s update brings the hospital’s COVID-19 death total to 111, with at least 168 COVID-19 deaths reported across the Santa Clarita Valley as a whole since March 2020.

There were 77 COVID-19 patients in Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital as of Saturday, Jan. 23, while 949 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March 2020, according to Moody.

The update comes the same day as officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) confirming that the county had surpassed 15,000 total COVID-19 deaths.

“We wish healing and peace to everyone mourning a loved one lost to COVID-19,” LADPH Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer said in a statement Saturday. “While we are seeing some positive data in daily new cases and hospitalizations, we are far from out of the woods. It is critically important we slow COVID-19 spread to decompress the strain on our healthcare system and save lives.”
