Congressman Garcia Nominates Over A Dozen Students For Military Service Academies


Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, announced Tuesday that he had nominated over two dozen California students for acceptance into various United States military service academies.

A graduate of the United States Naval Academy himself, Garcia announced Tuesday that he had nominated 28 students from across California for acceptance into “the prestigious United States service academies.”

“Having personally attended the United States Naval Academy, it is great to see so many smart, hardworking, and patriotic young Americans eager to serve their country,” Garcia said in a statement Tuesday. “It is an honor to now have the privilege to nominate students to the academies.”

The 28 students Garcia nominated are as followed:

  • Joseph Ahart – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy
  • Zachery Ball – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy 
  • Kevin Duong – Nominated to the United States Air Force Academy
  • Kemper Fairbanks – Nominated to the United States Merchant Marines Academy and the United States Military Academy
  • Natalie Flynn – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, and the United States Military Academy 
  • Izabela Gorcynski – Nominated to the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy
  • Austin Hernandez – Nominated to the United States Military Academy
  • Luke Hoelzel – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy
  • Joshua Kang – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, and the United States Military Academy
  • Shine Lim – Nominated to the United States Military Academy
  • Sammy Matta – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy
  • Kali McCormick – Nominated to the United States Merchant Marines Academy
  • Gabriella Meccia – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy 
  • Benjamin Niednagel – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy 
  • Peter Niednagel – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy
  • Janny Oh – Nominated United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy
  • Sierra Paoli – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy
  • Nicholas Radtke – Nominated to the United States Merchant Marines Academy
  • Edgar Romero – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy 
  • Hunter Romine – Nominated to the United States Military Academy
  • Diego Soto – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy
  • William Sutton IV – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy 
  • Shane Sypher – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, and United States Merchant Marines Academy 
  • Marilyn Tran – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy
  • Benjamin Valdez – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy
  • Chapman Wolf – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy
  • Joshua Yoon – Nominated to the United States Air Force Academy
  • Makenna Zedaker – Nominated to the United States Naval Academy 

Each academy is set to conduct their final selection for admission this spring. 

“These students have shown leadership and dedication to their country through their decision to apply to a U.S. service academy,” Garcia said. “The application process is rigorous and long and I commend them for their time and dedication throughout it. I look forward to seeing all that these young leaders achieve, and I am confident they all have bright futures ahead.”
