Sorting Clothes When Packing

Moving is an exciting and stressful event. In addition to being able to change your life and start from scratch, it comes with a lot of worries and packing. In principle, you can transport your clothes in suitcases and travel bags, but the good organization will not prevent you from moving. You may also hire professional movers who will do all the job. Before booking check moving company reviews and ask for a moving Quote. Clothing weighs a lot, and during transportation from the old house to the new home, it must be protected from moisture and damage. It is advisable to plan the packaging of clothing in advance, as well as use suitable packaging materials.

1. Group clothing by material type. You should put clothes made of the same material in the same box. It can be silk, cotton, polyester, wool and other fabrics. Each material requires different care, has a different thickness and a tendency to crease. This will make it easier for you to sort out the clothes in your new home and unpack the ones you need first.

Woolen fabric is thicker than the rest and less wrinkled. To pack such items, fold them as usual and put them on top of the rest of your clothes. You can put paper towels between items of clothing so that they do not get tangled together. You can also use several additional boxes based on the thickness of the fabric.

Silk and cotton are thinner and crumple easily. If you are not afraid of folds, then put such clothes in a separate box. You can always iron it. But if you don’t want creases on your clothes, hang each item on hangers and put a plastic bag over them. Then hang them in a vehicle or dressing box.

Polyester and synthetic materials can be safely put in boxes. They are quite thin and almost do not crumple. Fold them like any clothing and place them in a box on top of each other.

2. Pack off-season clothing first. You won’t need it right away, so you can specify the type of clothing on the tag to unpack these boxes last. For example, if you are moving in early summer, pack all your autumn sweaters and winter coats first. If the move is in January, first fold the t-shirts and short-sleeve shirts.

If you are packing during one of the transition months, leave some of the necessary items at the top of the box.

Pack special clothing as well. It includes camping equipment, swimming trunks, and more. For sure, in the case of a large move, all travel will have to be postponed.

3. Arrange your clothes by season. Use different boxes for summer, autumn, winter, and spring clothing. Spring and summer clothing is usually lighter and can be packed tightly. Such items of clothing are quite easy to crumple, so some things are better left on hangers. Fold wisely, as space needs to be used efficiently. Autumn and winter clothing is denser and less wrinkled. It requires a lot of boxes, but almost no hangers.[24]

Do not forget about the tags, otherwise, you will have to rummage through each box in search of the right thing.

Sort your clothes according to the climate of your new place of residence. If you are going North, pack your winter clothes first. This way you can use it immediately upon arrival. When heading South, pack your spring and summer clothes first.

4. Divide the clothes by size. Put all the large clothes in one box and the smaller clothes in the other. For example, sweaters, jackets, raincoats, and jeans can be placed in one box, while Underwear, socks, gloves, hats, and leggings can be placed in a small box. Don’t forget to put the contents of the box on the tag, as you will be mixing different types of clothing.

Make a list of all the Packed clothes so you don’t have to mess with the tag later.

Combine different packaging methods. For example, put together large clothes that you only wear in winter. Pack small silk items. This way you will save yourself a headache while unpacking.

5. Divide the clothes according to their purpose. Put all the trousers and trousers in one box. Underwear should also be packed separately. Use one box only for shirts. This method is well suited for quick transfers. If your move is delayed, it is better to use other packaging methods that allow you to put different types of clothing in one box.

Recommendations

  • Do not put jewelry in boxes with clothes. So you risk losing them or tearing the fabric.
  • Pack only dry and clean clothing. You don’t need mold in your new home. This will also protect the rest of your clothing from unpleasant odors.
  • Separate delicate items with layers of paper towels or fabric.
  • It is better to put hats in separate large boxes. It is very important that they do not lose their shape.
  • Heavy items should be placed on the bottom of the boxes, and light items can be folded on top.
  • If you wrap fragile items in clothing, do not wrap sharp objects in this way that may break or puncture your items.
