Robbery Suspect Detained At Gunpoint In Front Of Henry Mayo

A robbery suspect was detained at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon near the entrance to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia.

Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a possible robbery call on Poe Parkway in Stevenson Ranch, said Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

On their way to respond to the call, deputies spotted a vehicle near Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital that matched the description provided by an informant of the suspect’s vehicle, according to officials.

Sheriff’s deputies conducted a felony traffic stop in front of the hospital off of McBean Parkway, where deputies proceeded to detain the driver at gunpoint, according to officials.

“They have detained a male adult suspect,” Arriaga said.

Officials believe that the driver may be tied to an earlier robbery and a misdemeanor hit-and-run.  The truck that he was driving at the time is also believed to have been stolen, according to Arriaga.

As of the publication of this article, Sheriff’s officials were unable to confirm what was stolen.
