Lightning, Thunder Strike Santa Clarita In First Storm Of The Season


Lightning and thunder struck across the Santa Clarita Valley early Monday morning as part of a storm that officials say is the “first significant rain of the season.”

Starting late Sunday night and lasting through early Monday morning, many residents in the Santa Clarita Valley were woken up to flashes of lightning and the sound of thunder.

Residents from Castaic to Canyon Country reported hearing the thunder and seeing the lightning that came as part of the first storm of the season for the Santa Clarita Valley.

While some residents in Saugus and Canyon Country reportedly experienced brief service outages during the storm, no injuries or significant damage had been confirmed as of 1:15 a.m. Monday.

Officials with the National Weather Service (NWS) had previously stated that the Los Angeles County area would experience the “first significant rain of the season”starting Sunday night and lasting through Monday.

“A cold front coming through (Sunday) night through (Monday) will bring upwards of 0.25-1″ of rain across the area,” reads an official post from the NWS.

In the Santa Clarita Valley, officials say that rain is most likely to last until about 5 p.m. Monday.

The rest of the week is forecast to be clear, with daytime highs ranging from the high 50’s to the low 60’s through Friday.
