L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Advises To Drive Sober During Holidays

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sent an advisory message to county residents to travel sober during the holidays.

This holiday season, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department encourages the community to make sure every holiday celebration ends with a sober driver.

“The holidays will feel a bit different this year, but one thing that has not changed is choosing a sober way to go,” reads an official statement from the department.

Through New Year’s Day, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is set to have additional personnel on patrol looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

In addition, officials are set to actively look for other unsafe driving practices, such as speeding, not wearing a seat belt, driving distracted, not yielding to bicyclists or pedestrians to make sure everyone has a safe holiday.

“2020 has been a tough year so let’s try and end it on a good note by being safe on the road during the holidays,” said Sergeant Robert Hill with the department. “Taking simple safety measures helps make sure we can all enjoy the holidays.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reminds drivers that “driving high does not fly.” Marijuana, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter medications may impair, especially in combination with alcohol and other drugs.

“There’s no joy in a DUI,” Sergeant Hill said. “Sober is the way to go.”
