Areas In Canyon Country Under Consideration For Public Safety Power Shutoffs

Officials with Southern California Edison (SCE) announced Saturday that they are set to monitor several parts of Canyon Country for the next several days to determine whether or not to instate Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in the area.

On Saturday afternoon, SCE officials sent texts to customers living in potions of Canyon Country, including the 91351 zip code area, warning them of the possible implementation of PSPS due to “forecast fire weather conditions.”

“These conditions may result in SCE turning off your power,” the notification reads. “SCE anticipates that this may occur within 48 hours though it may occur earlier or later depending on actual weather conditions.”

These portions of Canyon Country are set to be monitored from 9 p.m. Saturday to noon on Wednesday, Dec. 16.

“When forecasts indicate elevated weather conditions, we’ll begin assessing the potential impact to affected areas,” a statement from the SCE website reads. “We’ll analyze historical data to help predict the likelihood of a wildfire occurring, closely monitor weather watch alerts from the National Weather Service, and place incident responders on alert, if needed.”
