Canyon Country Man Arrested For Battery On Peace Officer After Drunk Driving Investigation

A Canyon Country man was arrested Friday for battery on a peace officer after a drunk driving investigation, officials said.

At about 1:15 a.m. on Nov. 27, deputies responded to Crossglade Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country regarding a possible drunk driver, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It was reported a silver Honda was driving dangerously and was involved in a traffic collision,” Arriaga said.

Upon arrival, deputies located a vehicle matching the description from the call with a male adult driver with two other male occupants, according to investigators.

As deputies approached the vehicle, they observed an open alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle and a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the driver, Arriaga added.

Deputies detained the individuals pending an investigation, with the driver becoming uncooperative, according to Arriaga.

“A brief struggle ensued between the driver and deputies,” Arriaga said. “After a short period, deputies were able to detain the male without further incident.”

During their investigation, deputies learned the vehicle was observed hitting a street pole. As the male adult driver exited the vehicle to examine the damage done, he was seen stumbling out of the vehicle.

Deputies additionally learned the male adult passenger had an outstanding warrant and was on active probation, according to Arriaga.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies recovered a glass jar containing marijuana, contraband for use of sales of narcotics, one 20 round 9mm pistol magazine unloaded, according to investigators.

Caleb Moen, 18, of Canyon Country was arrested for possession of a large-capacity magazine, battery on a peace officer, possession of marijuana for sales and driving under the influence, according to Arriaga.

Moen was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $20,000 bail.
