Over 40 New Coronavirus Cases in Santa Clarita Valley, Over 2,000 New Cases in L.A. County


Officials with Los Angeles County are continuing to ask residents to avoid crowds as Sunday marks the fourth consecutive day of over 2,000 new COVID-19 cases across the county.

An additional 41 coronavirus cases have been reported in the Santa Clarita Valley on Sunday as part of the 2,238 reported cases across Los Angeles County, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

Sunday’s number of new cases continues Friday’s high, marking the fourth consecutive day of new cases over 2,000.

The countywide total now stands at 322,207, according to the department.

Two additional deaths were reported Sunday, bringing the cumulative total in L.A. County to 7,172 deaths, according to public health.

Over 3,257,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted as of Sunday, with about nine percent of those tests returning positive.

There are 851 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Sunday, 29 percent of which are in the ICU.

As of Sunday, a total of 7,610 cumulative cases of COVID-19 since testing began in March. These include:

  • 4,733 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 179 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 2,222 in Castaic*
  • 39 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 218 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 53 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 106 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • 29 in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • 10 in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
  • 12 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
  • Seven in unincorporated Sand Canyon
  • Two in unincorporated San Francisquito Canyon/Bouquet Canyon

*As of Friday, Nov. 6 officials have recorded 1,887 cumulative cases have been reported at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center, including 1,366 at the North County Correctional Facility. Those cases are distributed between both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, 92 cumulative cases were confirmed in nearby Acton as well as 43 in Agua Dulce.

An analysis of available data indicates that as of Saturday, Nov. 7, approximately 24.8 percent of all cumulative cases in and around the Santa Clarita Valley can be attributed to the inmate population at the North County Correctional Facility and the Pitchess Detention Center.

As of Wednesday, Nov. 4, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 10,527 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 1,065 have tested positive, and 34 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

There are 13 patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, Nov. 4 while 315 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody.

32 coronavirus deaths have been reported at Henry Mayo which are a part of at least 75 deaths across the Santa Clarita Valley.
