Nearly 40 additional Santa Clarita Valley coronavirus cases have been reported Wednesday, along with over 2,100 cases across Los Angeles County.
On Wednesday, 38 new Santa Clarita Valley coronavirus cases were reported, as part of the 2,152 confirmed cases across Los Angeles County, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.
The countywide total now stands at 327,964 as of Wednesday, according to the department.
22 additional deaths were reported Wednesday, bringing the cumulative total in L.A. County to 7,216 deaths, according to public health.
Over 3,302,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted as of Wednesday, with about 9 percent of those tests returning positive.
There are 903 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Wednesday, 28 percent of which are in the ICU.
The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 each day increased to over 800 this past week and now has surpassed 900. A month ago in early-October, the daily number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 was between 650 and 725 patients, according to public health.
Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of public health, acknowledged Veterans Day Wednesday, once again reminding residents to adhere to social distancing guidelines to stay safe during the observance of the holiday.
“Today, we celebrate and pay respect to our veterans for their service and sacrifice to our nation. If you are looking to celebrate Veterans Day, many events and celebrations in L.A. County have planned ways to pay homage to our veterans virtually,” said Ferrer. “As more than 4,200 veterans have passed away from COVID-19 nationwide, we honor, celebrate and protect our veterans by doing our part to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
As of Wednesday, a total of 7,791 cumulative cases of COVID-19 since testing began in March. These include:
- 4,880 in the City of Santa Clarita*
- 182 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
- 2,236 in Castaic*
- 41 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
- 227 in Stevenson Ranch
- 53 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
- 110 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
- 30 in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
- 10 in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
- 12 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
- Seven in unincorporated Sand Canyon
- Three in unincorporated San Francisquito Canyon/Bouquet Canyon
*As of Tuesday, Nov. 10 officials have recorded 1,887 cumulative cases have been reported at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center, including 1,369 at the North County Correctional Facility. Those cases are distributed between both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.
Additionally, 92 cumulative cases were confirmed in nearby Acton as well as 46 in Agua Dulce.
An analysis of available data indicates that as of Tuesday, Nov. 10, approximately 24.4 percent of all cumulative cases in and around the Santa Clarita Valley can be attributed to the inmate population at the North County Correctional Facility and the Pitchess Detention Center.
As of Wednesday, Nov. 11, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 10,964 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 1,122 have tested positive, and four tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.
There are 16 patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, Nov. 11 while 328 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody.
Two additional heaths have been reported at Henry Mayo Wednesday bringing the total to 35 coronavirus deaths at the hospital.
